Data Policy
Data sources
The information on this site is built from the public and semi-public data sources listed below.
- Craft master data: Built primarily from Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) designation list of Traditional Crafts, supplemented by public records from regional craft cooperatives and prefectural offices.
- Workshop and studio listings: Collected through the Google Places API and refreshed periodically. Opening hours, ratings, and similar fields follow Google's data.
- Geographic data: Map tiles are provided by the Geospatial Information Authority of Japan (GSI) — the pale base map variant.
Use of AI
Portions of the descriptive writing about each craft — its history, materials, and techniques — are drafted with the assistance of Anthropic's AI, Claude.
- Generations are grounded in public METI records and cooperative reference materials provided as context
- Generated passages are reviewed against a quality checklist before publishing
- If you spot an error, please reach out through the contact form
About accuracy
We make every reasonable effort to keep the site accurate, but opening hours, fees, and booking conditions at workshops can change. Always confirm the latest details on each workshop's official site before visiting.
Attribution
Each craft page links to the primary references it draws on. Wherever possible, we name the source — transparency is part of the work.
